Will the bank tell you if they report you?

Short answer

No. When a bank files a Suspicious Activity Report, federal law bars the bank and its staff from telling anyone involved (31 U.S.C. 5318(g)(2)). Your account can be frozen 'pending review' and nobody will say why.

When a bank sees activity it considers suspicious — a huge wire from an unknown company, money moved out minutes after it lands, a pattern that looks like structuring — it files a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) with the government.
